WEEEKLY (위클리) is a 7-membered South Korean girl group from Play M Entertainment. Their name originated from the group's desire to convey a new and special week every day to their fans. Weeekly debuted on June 30, 2020 with the mini album We Are.

in june 2017, loen entertainment (home to artists like iu and fiestar) revealed their intentions to debut a new girl group by 2018. the first three trainees to be revealed included produce 101's park soyeon, now mystic story trainee lee soomin, and lee ranyoung.
after they opened their twitter account, loen began teasing new faces to the public. a few of those known names included park soyeon, lee soomin, lee ranyoung, park haerin, lee soojin, shin jiyoon and park soeun.
loen entertainment changed their name to fave entertainment in september 2017, and the trainee group was eventually known as fave girls.
in october 2017, yg entertainment revealed that they would be holding a survival show under jtbc entitled mixnine. fave entertainment sent 11 female trainees to compete. however, yg only accepted 8 girls namely shin suhyun, kim bowon, lee soomin, park haerin, lee soojin, shin jiyoon, park soeun, and baek minseo.
the show started and lee soojin became the center girl for mixnine's theme song just dance with onf's hyojin. eliminations came and soon, only lee soojin, lee soomin, and kim bowon remained.
on january 2018, the remaining girls were unfortunately involved in a car accident. lee soojin was unable to continue filming the show and chose to drop from the competition while the two stayed. lee soomin was able to rank 2nd in the final girl group ranking but the boy group lineup won over (however they also did not debut).
some time after mixnine, girls left one by one. shin suhyun joined produce48 but was eliminated and left fave closely after. the girls who were left in fave included park haerin, lee soojin, shin jiyoon, and park soeun. a new trainee, lee gaeun, was eventually added during this period.
late 2018 and fave entertainment formally added two new girls to the lineup in addition with the remaining trainees: monday, and lee jaehee. they were once again aiming to debut a new girl group by 2019. the girls held a series of pre-shows (ala pledis girlz concerts) to prepare and introduce them to the stage.
however, on february 13, 2019, fave entertainment merged with plana entertainment (home to apink, victon, and huh gak) and plana entertainment's trainees were added to the equation.
the company started to seriously prepare for the debut by meticulously choosing trainees who fits the image they wanted for the debuting girl group. most of the 16 shown girls were dropped from the lineup or left the company.
by 2020, a new lineup emerged consisting of lee soojin, shin jiyoon, monday, park soeun, lee jaehee, han jihyo, and cho hyewon. han jihyo is the sole trainee to come out of plana entertainment.
fans were hopeful they would debut as this 7 as the members started getting small promotions such as 1thek music circles and melon 5.0 modelling gigs. on april 20, 2020, members han jihyo and cho hyewon adopted new stagenames and would be known as jihan and zoa respectively. a series of videos and tiktoks were produced over the course of the week following that.
on may 8, 2020, playm entertainment finally revealed that their first girl group to debut after 9 years would be debuting in june. on may 11, 2020, their name was finally revealed to the world: weeekly.
